Life

The lyrics present life as a mix of small fears, playful contradictions, and possible joy. The speaker is frightened of darkness and ghosts, yet also says she will accept a dare and try bungee jumping. By the end, the mood turns encouraging: life can be fun, though making dreams come true may be harder than expected.

Several everyday images make the speaker’s personality clear. A piece of toast and the evening news are comforts she would choose over facing a ghost, giving her fear a humorous, ordinary quality. Avoiding ladders and keeping a rabbit’s tail show superstition: she believes certain objects or actions might bring bad luck or protection. The wish to fly around the world in a beautiful balloon suggests freedom and adventure, but it is described as a dream, not a guaranteed plan.

The song’s message is upbeat without claiming that life is always easy. “If you really want to” suggests that attitude can help someone find enjoyment, while the line about dreams not being as easy as they seem adds a note of realism. The speaker may be brave in some situations and anxious in others; these qualities are not necessarily a contradiction, but part of being human. The repeated refrain celebrates life more through energy and feeling than through a precise explanation of what life means.
