Lyrics
Johnny Foster was an old time travelling showman
Almost was a legend in his time
Many are the stories told about him
And he must have been a wild one in his prime
All his life he travelled for a living
Most of it with danger by his side
Doing things that others never dreamed of
Cause Johnny was a showman filled with pride
He'd never been a part of city rat race
Although he surely knew his way around
And I'm sure that if he ever tried to settle
His way of life would never suit the town
He only camped inside the towns for business
He much preferred to camp along the way
And listen to the bush while he was fishing
And I'm sure that he was most content that way
Everyone had suffered from his joking
Seemed just like a kid that never grew
But many of his victims won't forget him
But the ones that can't forgive are very few
Times when he'd lost count of all his money
And then his fortune seemed to turn around
But he simply let the others do the worrying
As he sang and played his banjo on the ground
Johnny Foster was an old time travelling showman
Almost was a legend in his time
Many are the stories told about him
And he must have been a wild one in his prime
All his life he travelled for a living
Most of it with danger by his side
Doing things that others never dreamed of
Cause Johnny was a showman filled with pride, yeah
Close by he always had his life's companion
His gentle Eileen, calm but somehow strong
Living for her never had come easy
Cause Johnny treated life as one big song
And when she died his reason went from living
To be alone, it simply broke his heart
A few short days and then he went to join her
Old John and Eileen never were apart
Johnny Foster was an old time travelling showman
Almost was a legend in his time
Many are the stories told about him
Cause he must have been a wild one in his prime
All his life he travelled for a living
Most of it with danger by his side
Doing things that others never dreamed of
Cause Johnny was a showman filled with pride
