Lyrics meaning
The singer offers everything to a woman he calls “my darling” and asks her to come with him. At first, the invitation sounds playful and confident, but the lyrics reveal loneliness: he misses her presence even though he admits he knows nothing about her. As the song develops, his need becomes more urgent. He imagines her as someone who could stay beside him and ease his distress.
A “pedestal of crystal” suggests a high but fragile position: he may seem successful or admired, yet he fears falling and being alone. The image of someone “walking near me” makes companionship feel like protection against that fall. His promise to give “everything” expresses intense devotion, while the repeated refrain gives it the quality of an eager, almost insistent plea.
There is a tension between romantic generosity and dependence. He says he has much love to give, but he also asks her not to leave and speaks of waiting and crying for years. Since he does not know her name or age, his feelings may be directed less toward a known person than toward the hope of finding a companion. The song can therefore sound both joyful and vulnerable: it celebrates love while hinting that the singer fears being alone.
