Black Sheep

The lyrics portray a speaker addressing someone they once knew, who now seems to bend the truth and reinvent the past. The repeated call, “Black sheep, come home,” suggests that this person is an outsider being invited back, or someone the speaker cannot quite let go of. The mood mixes loyalty and affection with distrust: the speaker offers support, while noticing that other people keep pulling away.

Several images make the relationship feel unstable. “The truth is just a rule that you can bend” suggests that facts are being changed to suit someone’s needs. “Shape-shift” implies that the person keeps changing identity or behavior, while “trick the past” hints at rewriting shared history. The offer to send love “on a wire” may mean sending care from a distance, through a message or other connection. The “mechanical bull” evokes a rough, unpredictable ride, perhaps describing how people are drawn into this person’s excitement or chaos.

The lyrics do not explain exactly what happened between the speaker and the person they address. The boasts about money, cars, and buying property in outer space may be playful exaggeration, or may suggest grandiosity and a desire to appear powerful. The repeated refrain can sound comforting, but also insistent. Overall, the song holds two feelings together: the speaker sees someone as manipulative or unreliable, yet still wants to lift them up and bring them home.
