“Drank the Kool-Aid” suggests being persuaded to accept a belief or follow a group without questioning it; here, doing so leads to suffering. Images of being “domesticated like a cat in a cage” and having teeth pulled point to control and gradual loss of freedom, disguised by a smile. The “hug” sounds comforting, but beside the threat of choking, it becomes an image of affection mixed with harm.
