Speed Your Love To Me

The speaker sounds restless and intensely excited, unable to sleep and longing to feel love arrive quickly. The repeated plea to “speed your love to me” gives the song a sense of urgency: the speaker wants closeness, passion, and perhaps a larger feeling of freedom. The mood builds from private yearning toward energetic, almost overwhelming exhilaration.

Fire is a central image. “Fires in motion” and flames rising “higher and higher” suggest desire growing stronger, though fire can also imply energy or youthful excitement. “You go to my head” means the other person’s presence or love makes the speaker feel dizzy, intoxicated, or unable to think clearly. “Run till we come, until we be” is less clear, but its repeated rhythm may suggest striving toward union or a shared state of being.

Some lines, such as the reference to a wish and “Twenty fourth,” are difficult to connect confidently to the rest, so they may be personal or deliberately suggestive rather than part of a clear story. Likewise, “just my imagination” introduces doubt: the speaker may be unsure whether this intense connection is real or imagined. The lyrics can be heard as a straightforward plea for love, but their shifting images also leave room for a broader longing for freedom and excitement.
