One, two
One, two, three
This is my motto
Back to little bayou
Hope you dig it too
Keep that music simple, come on, let's move
Keep that music simple, put everybody in the groove
Keep that music simple, make you jump and shout
Keep that music simple, I know what I'm talking 'bout
Don't need no guitar player playin' a gang of licks
Stay on that funk side, Joe, sure enough dig your kicks
Don't need no drummer playin' all them rolls
Stay on that backbeat, real shot, and hold down the soul
Keep that music simple, keep it in the pocket
Keep that music simple, play it like you really rock it
Keep that music simple and don't lose your cool
Keep that music simple, let me take you back to school
Find yourself a bass player, play it clean and smooth
Still be funky, will be hold down that groove
Tell that percussion player, don't be bustin' all up them keys
There were never any business, just keep that groove at ease
You keep that music simple, can feel free
Keep that music simple, sure that to keep it funky
Keep that music simple, that's where it's at
Keep that music simple, down at the bacon fat
Bring in the horns section, don't be too hasty
Hit 'em with two or three good licks, just enough to be tasty
Don't lighten up on the rhythm boys, don't you all be late
See how beautiful that's it, now we gonna modulate

If you really listen to the radio, you'll see it ain't no mystery
The key to funky music is simplicity
Now don't take my word for it, check out the big Top 10
In Billboard and in Cash Box, the records that make it in
One that keep that music simple, feel free
Keep that music simple, be sure that to keep it funky
Keep that music simple, where'd you get the thanks?
Keep that music simple, all the way to the bank
Keep that music simple, chicks
Keep that music simple, fix it in the mix
Keep that music simple, ain't it a show?
Keep that music simple, everybody out on the dancefloor
Keep that music simple, keep it simple
Keep that music simple
