I was just a dumb boy trying to prove I was a man
A six pack full of courage and a truck full of my friends
The cops were on the highway so we took ole Wolf Creek home
Bobby double dared me to put that pedal to the floor
Till we rolled off of Wolf Creek Road
Must have been some angels watching cause we didn't need one stitch
My truck would never run again but we walked out of that ditch
And when I told my old man thought I might as well be dead
But he didn't lose his temper no this is what he said
As we rolled down Wolf Creek Road
Where the gravel meets the grass
On a switchback on the road
Where young men go too fast thinking they're made out of stone
"Boy you got another chance but son there's some who won't
Yeah you can push your luck but I'm praying that you don't
End up a cross on the side of Wolf Creek Road"
About a mile from where I wrecked he parked his pick-up to the right
We just sat there starring at those two sticks painted white
Didn't have no conversation but I know he knew I heard
Well he taught me a lesson didn't have to say one word
Drove home slow down Wolf Creek Road

"Boy you got another chance but son there's some who won't
Yeah you can push your luck but I'm praying that you don't
End up a cross on the side of Wolf Creek Road"
They put black top on the switchbacks and a rail replaced a cross
But some things in this wicked world should never be forgot
So I put one back up yesterday so some young man might see
Raising hell behind the wheel might put you six feet deep
Painted white on the side of Wolf Creek Road
Yeah I thank God
I'm not a cross
On a Wolf Creek Road
