Lyrics meaning

The lyrics argue that providing for a child is not the same as being emotionally present. A parent may offer schooling, money, gifts, and discipline, yet still fail to meet a child’s deeper needs. The repeated phrase “No basta” (“It is not enough”) gives the song a firm, regretful tone. Its focus shifts from familiar parental excuses—work, tiredness, or good intentions—to the lasting importance of listening and showing affection.

Several images make this contrast clear. The parent buys “curious objects” and even a new car, but these things cannot replace affection or conversation. When the child wants to discuss a problem, the answer is “tomorrow”; when the child raises sex, the parent blushes and leaves. These moments suggest avoidance, not simply a lack of money. The line that the parent “will not be eternal” is a reminder that time with a child is limited, and that care cannot always be postponed.

The song can be read as a warning to parents, but it does not say that material support is worthless or that every mistake makes someone a bad parent. Rather, it questions the belief that meeting practical needs proves one has been a good parent. The closing image of the child now taller and stronger than the parent may signal a sudden realization: the child has grown while the parent was distracted. The repeated refrain leaves that realization unresolved and pressing.
