Here's a band who ah, came up from Adelaide a few months back
And have been gigging around Sydney
You might have ah, you might have seen or heard them
But if you haven't you're about to
Would you welcome Cold Chisel
Song called "Home And Broken Hearted"
ย
Well I hiked up to Sydney it's a week before Christmas
Was thirty-eight degrees in the shade
I bought a second-hand Morris for a cheap two-twenty
I drove it down to Adelaide
Boiled for an hour twenty miles before my rental
I thought that heat would never end
But I knew I had to be home for Christmas with my Sandy
Takin' a few extra dollars to spend
Well home and broken hearted
I've been pasted to the telephone
And Boxing Day break was wasted sitting here on my own
The beer we bought for Christmas ran dry this afternoon
On the radio it's New Year's Eve
What a low down time of the year to pack your luggage and leave
Well I rode to the buyer just as fast as I could go
Was talking to his teenage son
I sure hope it lasted for the poor little bastard
At least until he'd had some fun
Caught a taxi home with great anticipation
Thinkin' all I got to do is try
There was a note propped up against the dressing table mirror
"Jimmy, it's over, goodbye!", yeah
Home and broken hearted
I've been pasted to the telephone (yeah)
Boxing Day break was wasted sitting here on my own
The beer we bought for Christmas ran dry this afternoon
On the radio it's New Year's Eve
What a low down time of the year to pack your luggage and leave
Oh yeah
ย
I went to a party and tried to drink myself happy
The steaks were washed away in the rain
I finished up in bed with an old acquaintance
She'll never be my friend again
And everyone was asking me where's the little woman
Rolled home before the rain could stop
And I've been sittin' for days reading pre-Christmas papers
With my heels on the table-top
Home and broken hearted
I've been pasted to the telephone
The Boxing Day break was wasted sitting here on my own
The beer we bought for Christmas ran dry this afternoon
On the radio it's New Year's Eve
What a low down time of the year to pack your luggage and leave
Oh, oh yeah, wooh
Wooh, thank you
OK, here's a song
Here's a song written by the band once again
It's for all the ah, people sittin' in their ah hotel rooms tonight
Or the people in the audience here who ah live in hotel rooms
(Anybody?)
This song's ah, all about, loneliness
It's a room with ah four walls, a washbasin, a door, yeah it's got a door ah, and a double bed
I can't take it, think all four walls
(One two)
