Fopp

The lyrics present “foppin” as an energetic dance that takes over a party. The speaker starts by describing dancing in different places, then draws other people in until the whole house is moving. The mood is playful and exuberant, with the repeated refrain making the activity feel communal and hard to stop.

Several images make the dance seem lively and physical: the speaker dances so intensely that people make room, and later loses a shoe. “Had the whole house hoppin” is an informal way of saying that everyone at the party was dancing or excited. The instructions to shake your hips, turn around, and move up and down suggest dance steps, though the lyrics do not explain exactly what “fopp” means. The invitation “Fopp with me and I’ll fopp with you” turns the made-up-sounding word into a shared activity.

The song can be understood as a humorous celebration of letting go and joining in, rather than as a story with a deeper plot. The line about being different heights but finding that it “don’t mean a thing” suggests that dancing makes those differences unimportant in the moment. Still, “foppin” may simply be a playful nonsense word or name for a dance; the lyrics leave its precise meaning open.
