Kokomo

The song imagines a romantic escape to a warm island destination. The speaker invites someone to leave everyday life behind and travel together, with the mood moving from excited anticipation to relaxed intimacy. Kokomo represents a place where the couple can slow down, enjoy each other’s company, and feel far away from ordinary concerns.

Several images create this holiday mood: sand, tropical drinks, moonlit nights, and the sound of steel drums suggest sensory pleasure and leisure. “Get there fast, and then we’ll take it slow” contrasts the quick journey with an unhurried stay. The phrase “get away from it all” means escaping stress or routine, while “perfect our chemistry” suggests developing their romantic connection.

Kokomo is presented as a destination, but the lyrics also make it feel like an ideal state of mind: a private, dreamy refuge shared by two people. The list of island names adds a sense of travel and exotic possibility, though the song does not give a detailed picture of any one real place. Its playful, romantic language leaves open whether the speaker is proposing a literal trip or simply imagining a carefree escape together.
