Lyrics
Now gather around and I'll tell you the tale
Of Gerald the Great, or so he'd regale
The grandest of fellows, or so he has said
For twenty-five years he's been dreading his bed
Every Midsummer morning he wakes in a state
The village turns out, they can hardly wait
They line up at dawn with their cider and grins
For when Midsummer comes, well, the fun begins
Midsummer pranks, Midsummer pranks
When fireflies spark and daylight sinks
Pixies come calling, mischief to spare
Midsummer pranks
Midsummer pranks, Midsummer pranks
Gerald is cursing and pulling his hair
Midsummer pranks, Midsummer pranks
He will never see a morning same as before
Midsummer pranks
Forevermore
The year of the goats, Lord, where do we start
They filled up his manor from cellar to cart
Forty-seven goats on his very best chairs
Six on the table and three on the stairs
Gerald came down in his fine morning gown
The lead goat looked up and dropped something brown
It was poop
He chased them around through mud, rain and sun
The village took bets, it was a whole lot of fun
Midsummer pranks, Midsummer pranks
When fireflies spark and daylight sinks
Pixies come calling, mischief to spare
Midsummer pranks
Midsummer pranks
The year of the portrait, oh Gerald grew red
They swapped out his face for a cabbage instead
His magnificent painting, twelve feet tall and wide
Now featured a cabbage with Gerald's great pride
Same regal posture, same glorious stance
Same golden embroidered ceremonial pants
He didn't notice til company came for his feast
The cabbage, they noted, was handsomer at least
Midsummer pranks, Midsummer pranks
When fireflies spark and daylight sinks
Pixies come calling, mischief to spare
Midsummer pranks
Midsummer pranks
The year of the voice, ah the pixies outdid
They switched out his baritone, yes that they did
Gerald stood up at the Midsummer fair
To give his grand speech to the crowd gathered there
He opened his mouth and out came a squeak
A tiny wee voice like a mouse trying to speak
He squeaked through his titles, he squeaked through his name
The village still squeaks as they ridicule his fame
Midsummer pranks, Midsummer pranks
When fireflies spark and daylight sinks
Pixies come calling, mischief to spare
Midsummer pranks
Midsummer pranks, Midsummer pranks
Gerald is cursing and pulling his hair
Midsummer pranks, Midsummer pranks
He will never see a morning same as before
Midsummer pranks
Forevermore
Now you might be thinking, the poor fellow's cursed
But let's turn the clock back to before things got worse
Young Gerald went walking through Thistlewick Glen
The grandest young fool ever hatched among men
He stumbled on pixies at Midsummer's height
Mid-dance, mid-feast, mid their holiest night
Did Gerald bow softly and quietly pass
He told them their dancing was, not first class
He critiqued their music, their fashion, their tree
Declared they should bow to him as he was lordly
The Pixie Queen looked at him, cool as the night
Oh, young Master Gerald, we'll see about that
And they have
Midsummer pranks, Midsummer pranks
When fireflies spark and daylight sinks
Pixies come calling, mischief to spare
Midsummer pranks
Midsummer pranks, Midsummer pranks
Gerald is cursing and pulling his hair
Midsummer pranks, Midsummer pranks
He will never see a morning same as before
Midsummer pranks, forevermore
Midsummer pranks
Forevermore
