Flying “up” and then falling “like a stone” contrasts the excitement of love with the shock of loss. Saying that love “had wings to fly” and that they could have “touched the sky” presents the relationship as full of promise; “sky high” also suggests something reaching great heights, but here it becomes an image of hopes being ruined.
