Lyrics
Let me tell you young ones about a thing I know
It occurred to me some years ago
It's about a thing that can't be beat
And I know it will surely knock you off your feet
What I'm on about is an old-time dance
Done to a music that don't seem to stand a chance
In this modern world of fashion and technique
This poor creature is really getting weak
Still nobody seems to care
No one but me and that's why I'm here
These days everybody's playing rock
But ain't nobody seems to roll
And if you want to move me down in my soul
It's gotta be good rock and roll
It's gotta be rock and roll
When Mr. Rock first met Mr. Roll
A long time ago back in the days of old
They both believed that they were gonna last
So they kept love simple and just let it blast
But somewhere along the line Mr. Roll got misplaced
And that to me is a real disgrace
Yeah that's like taking the wheels off a car
Or separate the strings from a guitar
Now rock is doing fine even though they're apart
But poor Mr. Roll is missing on the chart
These days everybody's playing rock
But ain't nobody seems to roll
And if you want to move me down in my soul
It's gotta be good rock and roll
It's gotta be rock and roll
Turn on the radio and lend it your ear
Rock you will find but Roll you won't hear
Go on down to your record store
They'll tell you, "Sorry we don't sell that no more"
Seems like we're supporting an old dying breed
Just a little attention that's all we need
'Cause once you've heard that it's got that swing
You will realize that it beats everything
So listen everybody it's an emergency call
For poor old roll who's bound to fall
These days everybody's playing rock
But ain't nobody seems to roll
And if you want to move me down in my soul
It's gotta be good rock and roll
It's gotta be rock and roll
