The song describes someone moving from uncertainty toward trust and emotional openness. At first, the speaker feels overwhelmed by questions and unsure whether the relationship is working. But the other person seems to understand their feelings and helps them feel capable and attractive. By the end, the speaker is willing to take a chance on deeper closeness.

Water imagery gives this change its shape. Calling herself a “tidal wave of question marks” suggests that her doubts arrive with great force, while the other person “surfing” them suggests ease or skill in handling her uncertainty. “Ready to dive” means more than entering water: it implies choosing to enter a relationship more fully, despite the risk. The warm water makes that step feel safe, and “swim deep” suggests wanting a meaningful connection rather than a casual one.

The speaker offers several possible reasons for feeling ready: the partner’s loving gaze, wine that makes her feel less guarded, or simply the comfort of being understood. The repeated “maybe” keeps the cause uncertain, and the lyrics do not prove that every doubt has disappeared. Her fear that falling in love could mean “losing it all” remains in the background. The song can therefore be heard as hopeful but not entirely carefree: trust is growing, even as vulnerability still carries risk.
