Lyrics
Oh Father, from your face I want to flee
So go and give all that belongs to me
Dear Son, do you even know how much these words weigh?
But because I love you, I’ll go and give it to you anyway
He packs his stuff and goes to a land far, far away
Right then and there, begins his great decay
He spends it all on food, sex, and booze
But the famine came, and everything he did lose
But oh, little did he know
That his Father’s love is unconditional
Walking away, his destiny he did carve
His soul and body, it all began to starve
He tried it all just to fill the hole
Just to realize, only the Father can make him whole
Hungry and hurt, covered in pig scent
He broke down and quickly did he repent
I’ll stand up, go back and apologize
For with my Father only, true satisfaction lies
But oh, little did he know
That his Father’s love is unconditional
Oh, he stood up on his feet and starts running to his home
To hope and love, to the place where he belongs
The real question is: what will his Father say and do?
Will he accept him as his worker? He simply didn’t have a clue
Oh, while he was far away
The Father took it upon himself to pay
With joy, he ran towards his son
So that all his shame, guilt, and debt would be undone
Father stood up on his feet and ran towards his child
Hugging, smiling, crying, their emotions ran wild
“Father, I’m so sorry for all the things I’ve done.”
“I have sinned against you, could we ever again be one?”
Before his word was finished, his Father’s grace, it interfered
His sonship was restored, his filth and sin were cleared
Rejoice, my friends, for my son’s life, it turned around
In darkness, lost and dead, but now he is found
Oh, come close and understand
This is a tale about a father and a wretched man
If you see yourself in this story too
Come back, your Father’s arms are open for you
