Someday (You'll Want Me to Want You)

The speaker believes the person they love will only value them after they have moved on. That expectation creates a shift from sadness and longing toward a quiet promise of independence: although the speaker is hurt now, they expect to manage without this person and eventually stop wanting them.

The repeated idea of being wanted only when “I’m in love with somebody new” suggests that affection may come too late, once the speaker is no longer available. “Feeling blue” is a common expression for feeling sad. “I’ll get along somehow” means the speaker expects to cope, even if they do not yet know exactly how.

The song leaves some uncertainty about the speaker’s confidence. “I know” sounds certain, but the repeated prediction may also be a way of comforting themself while still feeling rejected. The speaker does not describe a new relationship or explain why the other person might change; the focus is on the painful possibility that desire will arrive only after it can no longer restore the relationship.
