All God's People

The lyrics call for generosity, welcome, and responsible leadership. They address both ordinary people and powerful figures, urging them to act with care rather than indifference. The repeated message that “we’re all God’s people” suggests a shared human dignity. The mood is encouraging and communal, though the repeated commands to “face up” and “grow up” add a stern note: people must take responsibility and become stronger.

“Make welcome inside your homes” is a direct image of hospitality, but it can also suggest openness toward people beyond one’s household. “Rule with your heart” and “live with your conscience” contrast compassionate, morally guided choices with cold or self-serving power. The phrase “don’t turn your back” means not to ignore a moral teaching or responsibility.

The song’s religious language presents its appeal through belief in God, but the broader ideas—kindness, fairness, and freedom—may also speak to listeners in a more general way. The brief dream and “magic light” passage feels different from the direct advice around it; it may suggest a personal or dreamlike moment, but the lyrics do not explain its meaning. Overall, the song can be heard as a hopeful call for unity, while its repeated instructions also imply that such unity requires effort.
