The repeated claim that the world is “shattered” makes the devastation seem total, both physically and emotionally.

Images such as “storming broken glass” suggest a violent, dangerous storm, while “from below” hints at a catastrophe rising from beneath the ground. The “hollow planet” and “lacerations” make the damaged world seem like a wounded body. “Standing where they died” conveys the painful helplessness of surviving a disaster but being unable to undo what has happened.
