Lyrics meaning

The speaker agrees to let Anna leave because she says another man loves her more. His words sound calm and generous, but they are mixed with pain: he still loves her and feels that he has repeatedly been left heartbroken. The song moves from a direct goodbye to a wider expression of loneliness and uncertainty about what to do next.

The repeated instruction to โ€œgo with himโ€ can be heard as both permission and an attempt to accept a painful loss. The ring stands for their relationship or commitment; asking Anna to return it makes the separation concrete. When the speaker says he has been searching for someone to love him as he loves her, he suggests that he wants equal affection, not simply a partner.

There is some ambiguity in the speakerโ€™s attitude. He may sincerely want Anna to choose the person she loves, even though that choice hurts him. At the same time, repeating โ€œgo with himโ€ could carry sadness or frustration beneath its plain meaning. His general claim that every girl has broken his heart may reflect genuine discouragement, but it could also be an emotional overstatement made in the moment.
