Lyrics meaning
The lyrics describe a lonely man whom other people dismiss as foolish. He stays apart, seems not to answer, and is ignored even when he appears to speak. The repeated image of him watching the sun set gives the song a quiet, reflective mood. By the end, the judgment may turn around: perhaps the people who mock him are mistaken, too.
The hill suggests distance from ordinary social life: the man can watch others without joining them. โHead in a cloudโ often means being dreamy or distracted, though here it may also suggest that others misunderstand him. The world โspinning roundโ can mean that life keeps moving and changing, while the man observes it from his still position. His many voices are heard by nobody, suggesting that making a sound is not the same as being understood.
The song leaves his character uncertain. He might be wise and independent, seeing something others miss, or simply withdrawn and difficult to understand. The line claiming that the others are fools invites us to question who gets to decide what โfoolishโ means. At the same time, the lyrics do not explain what he knows or wants, so his silence remains open to interpretation.
