Where Angels Play

The lyrics move from an invitation to escape into a vivid, dreamlike place to a sudden rejection. At first, the speaker seems excited by a shared adventure, imagining a world beyond ordinary life. Later, the mood darkens: the colours fade, and the speaker insists they no longer want or need the other person. The repeated, sharp “bang” sounds make the change feel abrupt and forceful.

Several images suggest escape and transformation. The “carpet” that is “made for two” may evoke a magic carpet, carrying the pair away from their cramped “ugly little box” into an open, flower-filled landscape. The contrast between the box and the wide plain suggests freedom from a limited or unhappy situation. “The seeds are sown” is an idiom meaning that the causes of what happens next are already in place; here, it may imply that the relationship’s ending has become unavoidable. The fading colours reinforce the loss of excitement or hope.

The song’s dreamlike shifts leave room for different readings. The journey may represent a real shared escape, a fantasy, or a change in how the speaker sees the relationship. The speaker’s confident rejection could express independence after feeling betrayed, but the repeated, almost playful sounds make the anger seem stylized rather than purely serious. The lyrics do not explain exactly what happened between the two people.
