There's a law in old Kentucky
That was passed in '52
It was passed against the aged
Someday, my friend, it may get you
This law caused so many heartaches
Among the aged and the poor
They took a lien against your homestead
For your pension check would come no more
Now old age people they were going hungry
Day by day they travelled on
You can often hear them sing
"Just a few more days and we'll be gone"
You can find in the Holy Bible
Where they're purling at the rich men's gate
The same thing was happening to the aged
Throughout our old Kentucky state
We have a Father up in Heaven
Someday will call the aged home
And when they meet there up in Heaven
There'll be no lien against that home
ย
The Nineteen and Fifty-Six General Assembly
Knowing that we had nothing to lose
Would repeal the old age lien law
And cure them old age pension blues
