A Public Affair

The lyrics present a night out as a chance to feel free, have fun, and take the lead. At first, the singer celebrates the evening beginning; then she invites others to join the party and encourages a person who is looking at her to come and talk. The repeated chorus keeps the mood energetic and carefree.

“Green light” means permission to go ahead, while “put the rules on hold” suggests temporarily ignoring everyday limits. “Carte blanche” is a French expression meaning complete freedom to act; here it adds to the idea that the night offers room to do as one pleases. The cameras may suggest that the party is public and visible, but “Who cares?” shows the singer choosing enjoyment over worrying about being watched or judged.

The song’s freedom is playful rather than deeply rebellious: it focuses on dancing, confidence, socializing, and living in the moment. “The world does not exist” is likely an exaggeration, meaning that for a while the party feels separate from ordinary responsibilities. The lyrics do not say exactly what the “public affair” involves beyond a lively night out, so the phrase can be understood broadly as a shared, visible celebration.
