The river whispers soft in the tail end of the evening
Water gently ripples and the air is brisk and cool
Redwoods standing tall, rain falls on the ceiling
And my memory goes back to days of old
A fire crackles late, laughter fills the forest
Where the people are all gathered for a family style affair
The flames light up their faces as they sing some classic chorus
Of whatever song the radio would blare
I'll make it home one sunny day
How'd I ever get so far away
When I return, I'll never stray
My mountain home is where I'll stay
ย
Awoken from a dream, reality comes crashing
Like the thundercloud it echoes out an all familiar cry
From this lonely place, the memories come flashing
Like the lightning painting pictures on a strange and foreign sky
A mind will not forget, impressions made so early
It carries them through living like a tattoo on the skin
We cry the tears it brings and replay the songs it sings
Ever searching for the place where we begin
