Lyrics meaning
The lyrics describe people waiting for an official statement from someone who refuses to speak. At first, the silence creates frustration: trying to get a response is “like talking to the wall.” As rumors spread, the situation becomes more dramatic and public. Yet the promised communiqué never quite brings clarity; the speaker keeps expecting that the person will eventually “come clean.”
“Talking to the wall” is an everyday image for speaking without getting an answer. “Incommunicado” means unable or unwilling to communicate, while “come clean” suggests admitting the truth or explaining what really happened. The rumors about an affair, sightings at an airport or station, and a photograph in a hallway show how little details can feed speculation when someone stays silent.
The lyrics may be poking fun at the gap between public gossip and an official account: people eagerly imagine what the statement will reveal, but the person is still saying nothing. “Think what he say, say what he means” can sound like advice to listen carefully, though it also hints that words may be interpreted or doubted. We cannot know from the lyrics whether the person is hiding something or simply has nothing to say; that uncertainty is part of the tension.
