Here I Come

The speaker presents a clear moral choice: to come forward with love rather than hatred. The repeated promise that goodness and mercy will remain with him gives the song a hopeful, steady feeling. Warnings against envy and wrongdoing add a firmer note, suggesting that harmful choices may eventually bring consequences.

Several images express faith and abundance. “My head is anointed” suggests being blessed or set apart for a spiritual purpose, while “my cup runneth over” means having more than enough—perhaps happiness, gratitude, or spiritual strength. Goodness and mercy “following” the speaker makes these qualities seem like companions that stay with him through life. The “Father’s hand” implies divine judgment, though “whipped” is a forceful image for punishment.

The lyrics can be heard as both a personal statement of faith and an encouragement to a community, addressed as “children.” Their message is not simply that good people will never face hardship, but that the speaker chooses a loving path and trusts in spiritual protection. The repeated lines create confidence, while the warning about punishment leaves some tension: the song emphasizes compassion, yet also presents a stern view of moral consequences.
