Across The Universe

The lyrics present a mind filled with words, thoughts, feelings, sounds, and images that seem to move on their own. The speaker describes being swept along by this inner flow, yet repeats that nothing will change their world. This creates a contrast between constant movement and a firm sense of inner steadiness.

Several images make abstract experiences feel vivid. Words fall like “endless rain” into a “paper cup,” suggesting more thoughts or language than the mind can easily contain. Thoughts “meander” like wind: they wander without a clear direction. The “million suns” image makes love feel vast, bright, and surrounding, while “calls me on” suggests it draws the speaker forward.

The repeated refrain could express calm confidence: whatever passes through the mind, the speaker’s essential world remains intact. It might also sound like a protective assertion, repeated against the unsettled rush of thoughts and sensations. The song does not explain exactly what “my world” means, so it may refer to inner beliefs, identity, or simply a private mental landscape. Its meaning stays open, balancing stability with openness to experience.
