The repeated image of “cold rain” compares the partner’s kisses and hands to something that cools him little by little. The phrase “drop by drop” suggests that affection faded gradually, rather than disappearing all at once. The “rose” and its thorns offer another image: the beloved is attractive, but closeness has caused pain. Calling the partner’s behavior “hypocrisy” shows that he sees a gap between the name “love” and how he was treated.
