Clap Yo' Hands

The lyrics invite everyone to join a lively, communal celebration. Repeated calls to clap, slap a thigh, and dance create a playful, energetic mood, while “Hallelujah” and “jubilee” give the gathering a joyful, almost celebratory or worshipful feeling. The song shifts briefly from movement to advice about time and trouble, then returns to its welcoming refrain.

“Shake yo’ shoes” is a playful way to say dance, and “don’t you lose time” urges listeners not to wait or miss the moment. The image of life as “the sands of time” suggests that time keeps passing; calling a person “only a pebble” may make an individual seem small beside that vast span. Trouble is described as a rebel and told to go “to the devil,” a humorous, forceful way to suggest refusing to let difficulties take control.

The advice is deliberately broad rather than detailed: the song does not explain what trouble means or how to solve it. The pebble image could suggest humility, or simply remind us that our time is limited. Overall, the lyrics seem to balance cheerful movement with a light message: join others, enjoy the present, and try not to be ruled by problems.
