I pulled into Nazareth, I was feelin' about a half past dead
I just need a place where I could lay my head
"Hey, mister, can you tell me where a man might find a bed?"
He just grinned and shook my hand, and "No", was all he said
Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny, and, and, and, and
You put the load right on me (put the load right on me)
I picked up my bags, and went lookin' for a place to hide
When I saw oh Carmen and the Devil walkin' side by side
I said, "Hey, Carmel, come on, let's go downtown"
She said, "I've got to go, but my friend here can stick around"
Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny, and, and, and, and
You put the load right on me (put the load right on me)
Why don't you?
Go down, Miss Moses, there aint nothin' you can say
It's just ol' Luke, Luke is waitin' on the Judgement Day
"Hey, Luke, my friend, what about young Anna Lee?"
He said, "Do me a favour, boy, won't ya stay an' keep Anna Lee company?"
Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny, and, and, and, and
You put the load right on me (put the load right on me)
Yeah
Crazy Chester followed me, and he caught me in the fog
He said, "I'll see you right, if you take home Jack, my dog"
But I said, "No wait a minute, Chester, know I'm a peaceful man"
He said, "That's okay, just feed him when you can"
Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny, and, and, and, and
You put the load right on me (put the load right on me)
Ooh, ooh, right on me
Come on now
Oh
I'll catch a cannonball now to take me down the line
My bag is sinkin' low, I do believe it's time
To get back to Miss Fanny, you know she's the only one
Who sent me here with her regards for everyone
Take a load off Fanny, take a load for free
Take a load off Fanny, and, and, and, and
You put the load right on me (put the load right on me)
Ooh, ooh, right on me, yeah
