Hungry Like the Wolf

The lyrics create a tense, energetic scene of pursuit at night. The speaker seems intensely drawn to someone and describes following them, moving from the city into a more imagined, wild landscape. The repeated refrain makes the desire feel urgent and almost instinctive, while the rhythm and repeated sounds add a breathless, restless quality.

Several images blend city life with animal-like hunting. “The night is a wire” suggests danger or tension, as though the dark city is charged with energy. “I’m on the hunt” presents attraction as a chase, and “hungry like the wolf” compares desire to a strong physical appetite. The references to scent, sound, howling, and the forest strengthen this predator-and-prey imagery, though they may be figurative rather than literal.

The song’s pursuit can be read as passionate flirtation, but its language also makes the speaker’s attention seem overwhelming and potentially threatening. The other person’s feelings remain unclear: the speaker says they want a sign, yet most of the lyrics focus on the speaker’s own desire and pursuit. The contrast between being “lost” and “found” may suggest excitement and confusion happening at once.
