Lyrics meaning
The lyrics begin with a speaker watching attractive people and trying to approach them politely, while repeating that love is “for everyone.” But the mood becomes darker: the speaker admits that the imagined relationship is not mutual, then tries to include himself in the promise of love. By the end, the fantasy involves a woman being held and crying, so the repeated claim sounds disturbing rather than reassuring.
Several images show the gap between desire and reality. Warm water, sunlight, and shining bodies create a sensual scene, but the people seem to move away from the speaker. Closing his eyes lets him place a woman inside his fantasy, where she does not resist; this is not evidence of consent, but a sign that he has replaced her real choices with an imagined version. The repeated phrase about love being for everyone works like a slogan, increasingly at odds with what the speaker describes.
The lyrics can be read as exposing possessive, self-deceiving desire: the speaker treats access to love as something he is owed, even when the other person is unwilling. Yet the refrain’s shift from “not for me” to “also for me” may also suggest loneliness and a desperate attempt at self-inclusion. That vulnerability does not excuse the coercive imagery; the contrast leaves the song’s emotional meaning deliberately uncomfortable.
