New Year's at the Chanticleer
And I just signed my record deal
ย
Someone singing karaoke
Just a townie playing make-believe
ย
There you were spinning 'round
In your cardboard crown
You said, "Congrats, you made it out," but
Don't forget about your town
Don't forget where you came from
'Cause first you're up, then you're down
Came crashing back to earth
And there's no one around
Don't forget about the pain
Of being young and forgotten
And when you're up on that stage
At the top of your game
Don't forget who taught you to play
Don't forget about me
ย
I was just another shy kid
On the playground 'til you came around
ย
Had big ideas and bigger dreams
That no one seemed to give a shit about
ย
There you were, said, "If you got a song
We'll sing it loud"
You told me someday I'd make it out, but
Don't forget about your town
Don't forget where you came from
'Cause first you're up, then you're down
Come crashing back to earth
And there's no one around
Don't forget about the pain
Of being young and forgotten
And when you're up on that stage
At the top of your game
Don't forget who taught you to play
Don't forget about me
So don't forget about me, oh
ย
Found a voicemail that you left me
Back in 2017
You said, "I'm sorry you don't call me more
I guess you're just too busy for me"
They were playing your song at the CVS downtown
"I just called to say, I'm so proud"
ย
And I won't forget about my town
I won't forget where I came from
'Cause I've been up, I've been down
Came crashing back to earth
But you're not around
