Australia

The lyrics present Australia as a place of fresh starts, where young, healthy people can find work and build the life they choose. The mood is upbeat and inviting, with repeated claims that life there is sunny, friendly, and free from social divisions. The speaker’s enthusiasm grows into a playful, almost dreamlike picture of effortless happiness.

“Get what you work for” suggests that effort brings reward, while “no class distinction” imagines a society without rigid social ranking. “Nobody’s got a chip on their shoulder” is an idiom meaning people are not resentful or eager to take offense. The sunny Christmas day and holiday trip to Sydney help create an image of Australia as warm and carefree, especially compared with places where Christmas falls in winter.

The song can be heard as a sincere celebration of opportunity, but its sweeping promises may also sound exaggerated. Claims that nobody is unhappy, addicted, or held back make the country seem almost impossibly perfect. The cheerful repetition and simple slogans leave room for a tongue-in-cheek reading: the lyrics may be gently poking fun at idealized promises about life elsewhere, rather than offering a detailed account of what Australia is really like.
