So, Hammersmith (whoo)
It's kind of a real full-circle moment because
The disco ball is coming down
But, um (whoo)
This song was actually written in the soundcheck
Of the last time that I was in this venue
And so four years later, to get to come back and play it
It was a really surreal time in my life because
On the outside, don't know if you've felt this
But when you're going through a breakup, you can
Really look like you have your shit together
But, in your heart, you're always, just
Searching for a face that you know and love
And that you really long to see more than anyone else's (whoo)
So, um (whoo), this is for anyone
Who's still looking for that face in the crowd
God knows it cuts like a dagger
That you think your heart doesn't matter
'Cause I do, yeah, I do
I know we burn like a phoenix
But I didn't want to believe it
'Cause I knew that it's true
I didn't wanna let you down
Saying this is all that you want
It's everything you dreamed of
I didn't wanna let you down, so I said I could give you up
Thinking back on all that I've done
And at every road I'm on
A part of me has never stopped looking
For your face in the crowd
God knows I want to believe that
You were the love that I needed
But it's lost, and all 'cause
I didn't wanna let you down
Saying this is all that you want
It's everything you dreamed of
I didn't wanna let you down, so I said I could give you up
Thinking back on all that I've done
And at every stage I'm on
A part of me has never stopped looking
For your face in the crowd
In the crowd
In the crowd
In the crowd
In the crowd
Ooh-ooh-ooh
I didn't wanna let you down
Saying you were all that I want
You're everything I dreamed of
I didn't wanna let you down, so I said I could give you up
Thinking back on all that I've done
And how did I get it so wrong?
A part of me will never stop looking
For your face
Every airport, side walk
New train I board
A part of me will always be
Praying for your face in the crowd
