Let's Do It

The song playfully argues that love—or the physical desire suggested by “do it”—is a natural, nearly universal impulse. It moves from people in many places to animals in the sea, building a cheerful case for falling in love. The repeated invitation makes the speaker sound teasing and persuasive rather than serious or solemn.

Several examples rely on wordplay and exaggeration. “Even educated fleas” and “beans” supposedly joining in make the claim comic by extending it to unlikely participants. The list of countries and nationalities suggests that no group is exempt, though its quick, rhyming references are more playful than precise. The electric eels “do it” even though it “shocks ’em,” turning their electric nature into a joke.

The song leaves “do it” indirect: it can mean falling in love, but it also hints at sexual activity. That double meaning gives the chorus its cheeky tone. The speaker presents desire as something found throughout nature, yet the lyrics are a humorous fantasy, not a literal claim about what every creature does. The confident invitation may be sincere, flirtatious, or both.
