Lyrics meaning
The speaker begins as a dreamy outsider, detached from ordinary pleasures and spending his time with flowers, songs, and stray cats. A woman arrives during a storm, and he falls in love. At first, she brings excitement and warmth into his bohemian life. Over time, however, the relationship turns sour: she mistreats what he cares about and eventually leaves him for someone else. He responds by retreating into his former dreamlike solitude.
The cat imagery shapes how he describes the woman. He first mistakes the scratching at his door for a lost cat, then calls her a beautiful “feline” and imagines her soft paw resting on his heart. These images make the romance seem charming and playful, but they also hint that he sees her as independent and hard to hold. The phrase about carrying his “horns” suggests that he feels betrayed or made a fool of by her leaving him.
The repeated, rough exclamations express both anger at the woman and self-pity. Yet the song’s comic exaggeration makes the speaker’s complaint less straightforward than a simple accusation: his account is clearly his own, wounded perspective. His return to the moon may mean he chooses solitude again, but it can also sound like a humorous retreat from painful everyday love.
