We saw the lights go down across the land
We were waiting for someone to take a stand
And there was no one there to hear the call
No one listening to us at all
Hey now, you know we need an American hero
Right now, we're searching for an American hero
Who will stand up tall for everyone
I grew up in a little town just off the grid
We didn't have a dime to spend, but no one did
We watched the world from far away
It was growing darker every day
Hey now, you know we need an American hero
Right now, we're searching for an American hero
Who will stand up tall for everyone
Everyone (mmm-hmm)
We weren't big enough to change the scenes
That was for people in those magazines
But what if no one stood to play the part
But what if no one had a hero's heart?
Hey now, you know we need an American hero
Right now, we're searching for an American hero
Who will stand up tall for everyone
Everyone (everyone)
Why are we waiting from afar? (Ooh-ooh-ooh)
Let's be the heroes that we are
Maybe we'll change the world, we'll never see
Unless we try to change it, you and me
It's time to stand up here and dare for more
Become the heroes we've been waiting for
Hey now, you know we need an American hero
Right now, we're searching for an American hero
Who will stand up tall for everyone
Everyone (everyone)
Who will stand up tall for everyone, hear me now
An American hero
