Der Kommissar

The lyrics describe a young woman and her group of friends, whose lively talk and music sit alongside hints of danger. The mood shifts from playful and energetic to uneasy: the repeated warning about the Kommissar suggests that someone powerful is watching, while the characters seem unable or unwilling to escape trouble.

Several images imply more than they state. The woman’s nose “told the story” may hint at drug use, though the lyrics do not explain this directly. “Slidin’ down into the valley” and “slipping on the same snow” suggest a shared downward path, perhaps a pattern of risky behavior that is hard to stop. The Kommissar’s “eye” implies surveillance, and the command “Don’t turn around” sounds like a warning not to attract attention.

The song’s meaning remains open. The Kommissar may be a literal police officer, a symbol of authority, or a threatening figure in the characters’ minds. The line about living faster and dying sooner could express the danger of their lifestyle, or it may simply heighten the song’s tense, rebellious atmosphere. The lyrics offer clues rather than a complete explanation.
