If this was a love song
I'd start by reminiscing 'bout what my life was like
And how it was all wrong
'Til you came along and made it right
If this was a love song
I'd say things like "You're wonderful"
I'd be sincere
I'd tell you, "Baby, I'm so happy that you're here"
Well, I know some girls are sentimental
They sing those songs so soft and gentle
They say things like, "I love you more each day"
But this is not a love song
Let's get that straight
ย
If this was a love song
I'd have to spend some time on how you are the best (yeah yeah)
And how you saved me from loneliness
Like I was some damsel in distress
If this was a love song
The moment that you heard it, there would be no doubt (no no)
That it was you and only you I couldn't do without
Well, I know some girls are all a-twitter
They wear that lipstick, high heels and glitter
They grab themselves a pink guitar and play
But this is not a love song
No how, no way
ย
Whatever you do, don't misconstrue or take this as a sign
(Don't assume nothin')
These are just random thoughts
(These are just random thoughts) that happen to rhyme
(this is not serious)
I know some girls like to play it real cute, that's so undignified
(Don't get the wrong idea)
You'll be relieved to hear that is not me, my dear
No
ย
I know some girls are slaves to their emotions
Got clever metaphors about love and oceans
Some girls like public displays of affection
Wanna broadcast that they've made a connection
I do not subscribe to those cliches
And this is not a love song
You thought it was? You're wrong
But stick around, I just might write you one someday
