I grew up
Driving the mountains
In the back of a Datsun
With the green dashboard lights
And Amy Grant
Sang our theme song
If they only knew
How much she loved them
But where was Jesus
When we needed him?
Where was Amy Grant?
I thought she was his backup
And the devil of the 80s
Shook our car window
Singing, "We will rock you"
And I ran so far away
I wish I'd heard of Freddie Mercury
While he was still alive
I woulda switched sides
I woulda switched sides
Where was Jesus
When we needed Him?
Where was Amy Grant
I thought she was his backup
I like to think I found him just in time
