Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat)

The lyrics celebrate a group and a shared love of hip-hop, jazz, and dancing. The speakers describe DJs, records, clubs, and people responding to the music, presenting their style as lively and distinctive. The repeated claims—“cool,” “chill,” and “peace”—give the song a confident but relaxed mood. Its energy moves from showing off the crew’s sound to affirming a broader sense of belonging and ease.

Several images make music feel physical and communal. A “rush” comes when the DJ plays records, while rhythms seem to travel “right down ya block,” suggesting that the sound reaches into everyday life. The line comparing rap to a key and a lock implies that the group’s music fits hip-hop perfectly. “The rebirth of slick” suggests a fresh return of stylish, skillful expression, rather than a literal rebirth.

The lyrics use playful slang, shifting pronouns, and quick snapshots of different people, so not every line has a clear single meaning. Some references may be private jokes or details that listeners interpret differently. The repeated “I’m cool like dat” can sound boastful, but its easy repetition also makes confidence feel like a shared attitude. Overall, the song seems to value originality, musical knowledge, and community, without insisting on a serious or narrowly defined message.
