This is a song from a, um lesser known musical band
Richard Rogers and Lawrence Hart
Who rented my apartment
Before making "Imagine" on Central Part West
Isn't that great? I mean what a great thing
Anyway, I have to tell you an interesting story about
My actor friends in the audience will appreciate this
I was very friendly with Marlon Brando who was my idol
I mean if, I so admired him as the greatest actor that ever lived
And one day he called me up and he said
And I remember and I can't do it, but anyway
"Hi Barbra, you can do it honey can't you?"
"Hi Barbra" and I was like
He said, "Sing me a song"
I said, "Marlon are you crazy?, I'm in the kitchen of my house
I, I don't sing, I, I, I don't sing in the shower, I don't sing from the house I
You know that's like me asking you to recite a soliloquy from Hamlet
To which he began to recite the soliloquy from Hamlet
Can you believe this?
I remember sitting in that kitchen with the phone going
You know, like thinking don't they have a recording device or something
I mean like, to capture that moment, it was like 1972
Anyway, I had to sing him a song
And this was the song that I sang him
I used to sing it at the Bonsoir
Nobody's heart belongs to me
Hoh, ho, who cares?
Nobody writes his songs for me
No one belongs to me
That's the least of my cares
I may be sad at times
And disinclined to play
But it's not bad at times
To go your own sweet way
Nobody's arms belong to me
No arms feel strong to me
I admire the moon as a moon, just a moon
Nobody's heart belongs to me, today
ย
See these guys
These, these show songs you know
Are created for actors
It's quite amazing isn't it?
