Lyrics meaning
The speaker feels deeply distressed when his partner is away or cannot be found. At first, his language sounds desperate and overwhelmed; later, he declares strong, lasting love, but also admits anger and doubt. The song therefore presents love as powerful but unsettled: affection and insecurity exist side by side.
โTore downโ means emotionally exhausted or devastated, not physically damaged. Saying he is โalmost level with the groundโ makes his sadness seem so heavy that it has brought him low. The river scene is more alarming: he says he went there to jump in, but his partnerโs reply, โI will tell you when,โ is ambiguous and may be dark humor, a teasing response, or a sign of a troubling relationship. โLove like mine will never grow oldโ presents his love as permanent, while โout of sightโ means exceptionally strong.
The speakerโs claims do not fully agree with one another. He says he would lie for his partner, yet immediately says he does not really believe that her love is true. This may show how insecurity shapes his feelings, or it may be playful exaggeration within a dramatic love song. The lyrics do not resolve whether the relationship is devoted, unstable, or both.
