Do not drink back-sliders wine
As the rain ruins my alibi
I'm down to tellin' you my troubled mind
It's not the sun bright path that called me from my home (ooh-ooh)
It's just that fine Backslider's wine (ooh-ooh)
My momma sings out in my memory
Son, don't drink no red eyed shine
Fight for your rights (fight for your rights)
But, don't just fight for right (ooh-ooh)
And do not drink back-slider's wine
ย
But I took myself to be a strong and lovin' soul
'Til I found my self face down on the bar-room floor
Cryin' my God, what has become of me (ooh-ooh)
I dare not drink Backslider's wine no more (ooh-ooh)
My momma sings out in my memory
Son, don't drink no red eyed shine
Fight for your rights (fight for your rights)
But, don't just fight for right (ooh-ooh)
And do not drink back-sliders wine
Do not drink back-sliders wine
