In 1965 I was up in Canada, and there was a friend of mine
Up there who a, to just left a rocking roll band in Winnipeg, Manitoba
Near where I come from on the Peris, a to become a folk singer
I love Bob Dylan who was his hero at that time
And at the same time there were breaks in his life
He was going in a new and exciting direction
He had newly turned 21 and that meant that in Winnipeg
He was no longer allowed into his favorite hound
Which was kind of a teenie bar per club
And once your over 21 you couldn't get back in there anymore
So he was really feeling terrible, because his girlfriend
And everybody the he wanted to hung out with
His band could still go there, you know
But was one of the things that drove him to become a folk singer
Was that he couldn't play in this club anymore, you know
'Cause he was over the hill
That was about the same time that Escort Magazine was doing pictures
Of girls in trash bins like once you're over 21 you'd had it
Their were thing, you know there was strange philosophy
Going around at that time
So he wrote a song was called, oh to leave on sugar mountain
And it was lament for his lost youth
And it went ooh, to leave on sugar mountain
With the bars and the colored balloons
You can't be 20 on sugar mountain
Though your thinking that your leaving there too soon
Your leaving there too soon
And I, I thought God, you know
If-If we get to 21 and there's nothing after that
You know, that's pretty bleak future
So I wrote a song for him
And for myself to just so give me some hope
And for you and it's got a chorus so we can all sing on
It's called the circle game
