She's Crafty

The lyrics tell a comic cautionary story about a narrator who is attracted to a woman despite warnings from his friends. At first he dismisses their suspicions, then invites her home. The mood shifts from flirtatious excitement to confusion and embarrassment when she steals nearly everything, leaving him exposed and his friends angry.

“Crafty” means clever or skillful, but here it carries a negative sense: the woman is good at deceiving people and taking advantage of them. The friends’ warning that she is “crafty like ice is cold” presents her dishonesty as obvious and unmistakable. “Robbed us blind” is an idiom meaning she stole a great deal while they failed to stop her. The repeated claim that she is “just my type” is ironic: the narrator keeps describing his attraction even though it has led to trouble.

The song can be heard as a humorous story about desire clouding judgment. The narrator notices clues—the crew recognizes her, the cab driver hints at something, and his friends hide their valuables—but he does not want to believe them. It is also possible to hear the repeated refrain as playful exaggeration rather than a serious moral lesson. Either way, the contrast between his confidence and the disastrous outcome gives the lyrics their joke.
