You uhm, you were always drawing
Mm, 'cause I, I was painting all the time
And doing commission work for people
You would come in, and you would sit down next to me and draw all the time
And there was always music playing all the time
We always had music playing, and a lot of times
We would sing while workin'
And people would come in and see you working and
I was painting on ceramic tile
And I would give you some tiles, and you would paint them
And I would fire them, and keep them, and would show
Show them to you later, and so you would just
And you'd keep reams and reams of paper of these drawings
You didn't sing much then
I think it was later on, as you got older, that you found your voice
I can't help but think the first time I heard you, that I heard you rap
That, uh, all of the-
'Cause rap, rap music hadn't come into its own, really, at that point
It was still pretty much fringy music, and I was proud of that
And I was wondering what it was, what your music was gonna evolve into
You know, I think mm, the one thing out of all that time is
You found your voice, you found your voice in your music
And you were able to express a lot, that a lot of kids don't get to express
And I wonder today if that's what other kids hear in your music
You know, how you turned things around for yourself
'Cause it was certainly nothing I don't think your mom, or I had to do with
It was God working in your life
